Clearwater Lodge: There are three Smallmouth Bass fishing scenarios on our lakes. Smaller bass in the ˝ to 2-pound range generally stick together in hunting packs. When you come across one of these schools you can experience non-stop action. Second, Smallmouth Bass in the 2 to 4-pound range will not travel in tight packs but will share a shoal or rocky point so casting in all directions and covering the whole shoal should produce a couple of nice bass. The bigger bass tend to stay on the opposite side of the shoal from where the waves are coming from. The third scenario is for big Trophy Smallmouth Bass in the 5 to 7 pound range. The big bass are usually older, smarter and travel in mating pairs and can be hard to find. When you find a spot that looks good for Smallmouth and you are not catching anything it could mean a big Muskie or Pike has moved into the area or there is a big pair of Smallmouth Bass and they have been spooked. What you want to do is leave for a half hour and then quietly come back as to not spook them. If you still don't catch a big bass, pull out one of the Muskie and Pike lures. www.clearwaterlodge.net

Lac Seul Outpost Lodge features world class fishing for Walleye, Northern Pike, Muskie and Smallmouth Bass in a remote region of Lac Seul. Smallmouth Bass are not a dominant species in Lac Seul but there are some monsters in the lake. If you specifically hunt down Smallmouth you will catch good number as the area around our camp has the greatest numbers. Northern Pike fishing is excellent with the back bays being stuffed with Northern Pike as well as many trophy Northern Pike being caught. Lac Seul is a labyrinth of islands and waterways with lots of Musky Cabbage, Wild Rice, Lily Pads and Pickerel Weed. It's the perfect conditions for Northern Pike to grow big and proliferate in great numbers. Guests catch more 20-pound Pike than most lakes that are called top Northern Pike lakes. Muskie populations have been increasing for many years and now Lac Seul has emerged as one of the top trophy Muskie destinations in Ontario. Muskie are most common in the 35 to 43-inch range but many big monsters over 50 inches get caught. In 2009, two 60-inch Muskie were reported being caught and released on Lac Seul. Lac Seul is considered the best Walleye fishing lakes in Ontario with high numbers of Walleyes as well as big trophy Walleyes. It's not uncommon to catch over 80 Walleyes in a day. Happy Day Lodge is located on Windermere Lake, which is one of the best fishing lakes in the Chapleau area. Walleye fishing is excellent for both high numbers and trophy size. There are also lots of Smallmouth Bass ranging from small to large trophies off all the rock points. The lake is just swarming with Walleye and Smallmouth bass. What makes Windermere Lake unique and a top lake is the monster Northern Pike and massive Lake Trout. Both Northern Pike and Lake Trout over 20 pounds are caught on a regular basis with 25-pound and even 30-pound pike and trout caught throughout the summer.
